A family sauna is a great place for family bonding and relaxation. It’s no wonder that more and more families are installing saunas in their home.

Buying the right sauna requires knowing a few things first…

First of all, do you want a traditional sauna or an infrared sauna? If you’re not sure about the difference, this is something you want to know before you purchase a family sauna kit.

Here are some other important things you’ll need to know to make the right choice…

What Size Do You Need?

This one is pretty obvious… Before you buy a family sauna kit, you need to know how many people your sauna needs to be able to hold.

2 to 4 people? 10 or more? Of course, you’ll also need to know if the space you’re considering for your sauna will be big enough.

This leads us to…

Outside or Indoors?

If it’s indoors, you’ll need to know that the size of the sauna you want will fit the space you’re considering.

If you want to set up your sauna outside, you can set it up in your front or back yard, patio, or poolside if you have a pool.

Before you consider outdoor placement, check your local building codes first. You may need to obtain a permit before you set up an outdoor sauna.

What Kind Of Kit?

This is something you’ll want to give some thought to…

There are pre-cut sauna kits and there are modular sauna kits.

So what’s the difference?

Pre-cut sauna kits include all the necessary components to assemble a full size sauna.

Pre-cut kits cost less than modular sauna kits, but you’ll need some handyman skills or you’ll have to hire someone to assemble your sauna.

You’ll have to frame up your own walls and provide your own insulation.

Assembly instructions are included when you purchase, but you’ll still need some moderate carpentry skills or good aptitude for piecing things together.

Pre-built sauna kits are much easier to assemble than pre-cut kits, but they do cost more as a result.

In addition to being easy to assemble, an advantage they have over pre-cut kits is they’re easy to relocate. If you want to move your sauna to a different place, piece of cake…

You simply have to detach the panels and then reattach them at the new location.

Pre-cut sauna kits don’t offer that kind of portability.

A sauna suit is also referred to as a sauna exercise suit, workout sauna suit or a sauna sweat suit. It’s normally made of rubberized vinyl or nylon. Some are also made of plastic.

Athletes such as boxers and wrestlers sometimes use these sweat suits to rapidly drop pounds when they have a “weigh in” approaching.

And how does this happen?

These suits work by trapping heat inside. You sweat heavily because your body wants to stay cool. This is what a sauna sweat suit is made for.

(Popular brands are Valeo, Bally and Everlast sauna suits)

There is potential danger, and I’ll get to that in one minute…

Are there any benefits of using a vinyl or nylon sweat suit?

These suits can aid in fast weight loss because they can maximize the shedding of water from your body.

You can drop lots of pounds in a short period of time. However, the loss will be water, and that takes me to my next point…

These nylon, vinyl or plastic sauna suits are advertised as workout or exercise suits that can help you lose lots of weight fast. This is an attempt to cash in on the huge weight loss industry.

You will lose weight in the form of sweat, which is water and electrolytes. The bad news is that it will come back when you replace what was lost by drinking water.

Therefore, these so called workout or sauna exercise suits are not permanent weight loss solutions.

Danger!

As I mentioned before, these sweat suits act as heat trappers. Your body has a much harder time cooling itself while wearing one, and your core temperature can potentially rise to dangerous levels if you exercise in one of these suits.

Extreme core temperature elevation is so dangerous that it can possibly lead to heat stroke. Dehydration is possible as well due to loss of fluids.

On the flip side, there are users who say that wearing one of these plastic, nylon or vinyl sauna suits while exercising did help them lose weight faster.

Personally, I say avoid them. If you insist on trying one, please be safe! Drink plenty of water before, during, and after, and monitor your body for any danger signals.

Why do people use sauna suits? Many people do so because it’s great for helping you to lose water weight quickly. As well, it helps to eliminate toxic substances from your system. You can wear it during a light workout or in more competitive activities such as boxing and wrestling. You can even reap some of the benefits of a sauna suit by wearing it outside in cold weather.

A sauna suit will prevent your body heat from escaping. Wearing a sauna suit during a workout will cause you to perspire much more heavily than usual. The excessive perspiration leads to temporary weight loss because you’re losing your water stores. Some people think they’ll lose a lot of weight by wearing a sauna suit regularly. But keep in mind that it will only help you lose water weight, not fat.

It’s critical that you drink lots of water when you work out in a sauna suit because it’s easy to become dehydrated.

A sauna suit can also be used as part of a body wrap treatment. Its heat trapping properties maximize the effects of this treatment. It also helps to contain the mess associated with the components of a body wrap, like clay and mud.

Keeping warm is another good reason to use a sauna suit. A sauna suit is also good for outdoor activities in cold weather since it holds in your body heat. They improve your circulation and keep your muscles warm due to their heat trapping effect.

Vinyl is a popular material for sauna suits because it’s tough and can handle abuse. With aggressive activities such as boxing or wrestling, there’s very little chance of the suit taking any damage.

A less costly option is a nylon sauna suit. They’re a good choice if you plan on doing intense exercise because you won’t sweat excessively. Good sauna suits made of nylon will have a light rubber coating on the inside to protect them from wear and tear.

Sauna suits are amazingly cheap. A good sauna suit will cost around $100, but you can get a basic one for $10 and up. Many sauna suits come in only a couple of sizes, either small-medium or large-extra large. If you’re a petite female, be cautious of unisex sizes because they might be way too big.

The reason for a sauna suit is to make you perspire more heavily by trapping heat near to your body. So you need to watch for the details that will maximize this ability. Look for jackets with drawstring waists that you can tie. Pants should have elastic at the waist and ankles. There should be elastic on the cuffs of the jacket. Also make sure the zippers are durable and rust resistant.

Each time you wear it, you need to do some basic maintenance on your sauna suit. Bacteria will thrive in the environment you’ve created by working up a sweat. Rinse your suit thoroughly with warm water and the recommended cleaner, and hang to dry.

Many enthusiasts claim that sauna health benefits include relief from arthritis, headaches, colds, hangovers and many other ailments.

There's some truth about many claims, but there are also many exaggerated claims. Still, there appears to be some evidence that suggests there are real health benefits you can gain from "sweating it out" in a sauna.

Sweating & Health

We live in a very sedentary age and many people just don’t sweat enough. That only highlights the importance of using saunas and steam rooms.

Like eating and breathing, sweating is very important for your health. Yes, it is that important.

Without sweating, your skin pores become clogged up by stuff like antiperspirants, artificial environments, smog, etc.

Many health and wellness professionals agree that heavy sweating in a sauna will help rid your body of harmful material.

I’ve even read that some physicians recommend home saunas to supplement kidney machines because sweating is such an effective detoxifier.

Depending on the individual, about a liter of sweat can be excreted during a 15-minute sauna.

Heat Effects On Various Systems & Organs

Kidneys. During sweating, blood is sent away from your kidneys and toward your body’s surface. This can help unburden your kidneys and help purge toxins through sweating.

Liver. Congestion of blood in your liver is reduced while you take a sauna. This may improve your liver's ability to detox.

Cardiovascular System. During a sauna, both your pulse and stroke volume increase. Surface vessels dilate as blood is shunted from your internal organs to the surface.

Repeated sauna use may help decrease elevated blood pressure by enhancing elasticity of your arteries, removing toxins from your kidneys and helping to reduce excessive sympathetic nervous system activity.

Immune System. Heating your body several degrees may increase white blood cell activity and destroy microorganisms that are heat sensitive.

Nervous System. Using a sauna inhibits your sympathetic nervous system while strengthening your parasympathetic nervous system. This means a sauna has a strong calming effect on your nervous system.

Detoxification – An important sauna health benefit

You’ve probably read that saunas are good for detoxification.

First of all, heating your body several degrees dramatically increases circulation.

According to Dr. Lawrence Wilson, this helps remove toxins from some hard to reach places like bones, sinuses, and teeth.

Many forms of bacteria are heat sensitive, so the heat from a sauna can weaken or kill some of them.

Also, cells damaged by toxic metals and chemicals are weaker than healthier cells. Exposure to some intense heat may be a death sentence for those weaker cells.

Sweating

Sweating is a great method for removing toxins.

Many substances eliminated through your kidneys may be eliminated through your skin instead. In this way, sweating helps relieve your kidneys.

In case you’re wondering, sweating from exercise is not the same as sweating in a sauna (or steam room).

First of all, saunas conserve your body's energy by providing an external heat source. This leaves more energy for detoxification.

Second, exercise induced sweating activates your sympathetic nervous system. This reduces the activity of eliminative organs (liver, kidneys, colon).

Parasympathetic Nervous System Enhancement

Stress from any source increases sympathetic nervous system activity.

For the best detoxification results, your body should be as parasympathetic (or relaxed) as possible. Why?

Parasympathetic activity mobilizes your liver, kidneys, and other organs to help eliminate toxins.

Deep Tissue Penetration

Infrared saunas in particular heat tissues from the inside. Some researchers believe this inside-out heating assists with deep tissue detoxification.

Conclusion

I hope this article helped shed more light about the subject of sauna health benefits.

If you have any health conditions, please remember to consult your doctor before using saunas on a regular basis.

If you've ever had a facial, you know that it's an invigorating experience. They feel good, and regular facials can help keep your skin luminous and feeling soft and smooth.

The problem is that having regular professional facials can put a dent in your pockets, not to mention that you have to make an appointment, then make the trip to get there.

One of the biggest facial sauna benefits is pretty obvious - owning one is a money-saving, convenient alternative to paying for professional facials.

More about the benefits of facial sauna systems

Facial sauna systems use steam to…

1. Open your pores for deep skin cleansing

2. Unclog stuffed nasal and sinus passages

These ‘mini saunas’ won’t deliver the overall deep skin cleansing effects of a sauna or steam enclosure, but they will allow you to give yourself a facial anywhere, anytime.

Deep Skin Cleaning

Our skin is under constant assault from toxic elements that we’re exposed to daily in our environment.

Well, nothing is better for your skin than heavy sweating. This is the real reason a facial sauna benefits your skin. It provides a very concentrated form of steam, helping clean out your pores from deep within.

Over time, the end result may be clearer, more beautiful skin. Your skin is also left feeling soft and supple.

The steam from a facial sauna also boosts blood circulation. This brings extra oxygen and nutrients to your skin surface - very important for maintaining healthy looking skin and a glowing complexion.

Respiratory Benefits

Steam has proven to be effective for respiratory conditions. Your breathing passages are soothed because of increased moisture content in your lungs, throat and nose.

Using a facial sauna can help alleviate sinus congestion caused by colds, asthma or allergies. If you have a serious condition like bronchitis, sinusitis, or hay fever, you can use it as an inhaler or vaporizer.

Simple To Use

I love simplicity, and another facial sauna benefit is that it’s very simple to use. They usually weigh just a few pounds, and basically all you have to do is plug it in, fill a reservoir with water, and wait for it to heat up.

You can also add a few drops of tea tree oil or essential oils to create a true therapeutic experience.

It takes careful planning to build a sauna from scratch.

Here’s an overview of the steps:

• buy or design your plans

• find/buy the wood

• accurately measure and cut the wood or have a professional do it for you

• assemble all the pieces, including a heater, bench and door

Choose A Location

Location is an important consideration when building a sauna. It’s the main thing that will influence your sauna design. For example,

• Will you convert an existing room?

• Will it be freestanding?

• Do you want it inside or outside your house?

• Will it be in the city or country?

When the location is chosen, you have to decide what kind of sauna heater you’re going to use.

Depending on your chosen location, you may not have much of a choice.

Choosing A Sauna Heater

Electric sauna heaters are the most popular choice. Obviously, you’ll have to have access to electricity if you want to use one.

If you plan to build a sauna in the country, a wood sauna heater may be your only option.

You can also buy a gas sauna heater, but they are more expensive.

Professional installation will be required and the sauna will need to be ventilated. Gas heaters also require more clearance than an electric heater.

Before making any final decisions, find out what the local building codes are. For example, there may be an ordinance for your community that restricts the use of a wood burning sauna heater.

Sauna Construction

If you want to convert an existing room into a home made sauna, you’ll have to take protective measures against the moisture that’ll come from the sauna. The room will need to be properly insulated and include a vapor barrier to guard against possible damage.

You’ll have to find-and-buy or special order the wood you’re going to use, then you’ll have to carefully measure and cut it (or have a pro handle that part).

Unless you purchase tongue-and-groove lumber, you’ll have to use a special tool to make tongue-and-groove joints in the sides of the wood for strength and tight seals.

Of course you’re also going to need a sauna door. Manufacturers sell them in different shapes and sizes.

You can also buy a bench for your sauna or you can build your own.

Although it is doable, if you’re not skilled with your hands building your own sauna will be no small task.

Sauna bathing is an ancient past time although the activity is quite popular in the modern world as well. What is it that makes the sauna such a timeless pleasure?

Saunas are designed to provide either moist or dry heat.A typical sauna session may be a social gathering in which bathers undress and sit or lie down in temperatures greater than 80 °C. Saunas are very relaxing, and tend to make users sweat. In fact, the sauna’s popularity can be attributed to its many health benefits such as stress reduction, detoxification of the body, an improved immune system and other positive changes.

The word sauna simply means a traditional Finnish bath. In ancient times, saunas were small dwellings dug in the bottom of hills and slopes to keep people warm in winter. Stones were heated to very high temperatures and water was poured over them in order to create heat and moisture in the form of steam. The heat would be so strong that often people would undress when this was done.

Eventually the sauna was improved with the addition of a metal woodstove and chimney. Although the temperature was generally set somewhere between 70 and 80 °C, a traditional Finnish sauna could sometimes get as hot as 90 °C. Steam vapor was also generated by spraying water onto the heated stones. The steam vapor and high heat caused bathers to sweat a great deal.

Historically, the Finns used a vihta, a bundle of birch branches with small fresh leaves. They would bind the branches together and use it to gently swat themselves and other bathers. This practice not only aids in blood circulation, but adds a pleasant birch scent to the sauna.

Saunas provide stress relief in two ways. Not only do they help you relax from simply spending time relaxing within, but they also help your body relax physically. .The other way in which a sauna relieves stress is physiological. More potentially harmful chemicals are able to leave the body with the aid of the hot steam. In addition, the formation of new chemicals that are known to cause stress is greatly reduced.

The opening of the pores also makes it easier to remove toxins from the body. Toxins travel through your sweat glands and are released with your perspiration. As noted earlier, a sauna creates a high amount of perspiration and therefore is excellent for detoxification

Finns utilize saunas on a regular basis, and saunas are lauded thoughout Finland as the best, most natural way to cleanse oneself both in body and mind. Then and now, the sauna remains a key component to healthy living in Finland. Families often bathed together in home saunas, and in the past Finnish women often gave birth in saunas.
Finnish migration to other parts of the world aided in the dissemination of information about saunas, how they were made and used and their many benefits. This enabled individuals from other cultures to learn about saunas and use them, and it paved the way for future advancements such as electric sauna stoves and far infrared saunas, which became very popular. Today, the sauna is recognized and enjoyed globally, and continues to be enhanced both aesthetically and functionally.

Time is a problem most of us have especially when it comes to going to the gym and enjoy a good sauna afterwards. Then again some of us do not even have access to a sauna. So what should you do so that you can enjoy the great benefits of a sauna if you have no sauna to go to? Well not bring to sauna to your house.

The home sauna is always a great addition to the house. Like any other home equipment, it will always be there but unlike the exercise equipment it is more than likely that the sauna will always be used. It may cost a bit of money, but it is a worthwhile investment and enjoyment by the whole family is guaranteed. It combines the health benefits of th sauna and in addition will give the rest of the family a fun way to relax

Fantastic Benefits

When you fell that your skin is tired, or is a little dull then what better way to rejuvenate then with a sauna and restore the healthy glow to your skin. Many times skin care problems are related to toxins in the body and washing with a cleanser only penetrates the superficial layer of the skin where as the sauna tends to act deeper through the skin.

If you want a deeper cleansing of your skin use your home sauna to your advantage. A home sauna kit will help to stimulate the lymphatic system in your body and rid it of all the toxins that surface in tired or problematic skin. Start your home sauna skin cleansing session with a little workout.

It doesn’t have to be a really vigorous workout. Just something that will get your heart rate up and a light sweat. Once you have worked up a little sweat get into your home sauna and stay in there for fifteen minutes. Most home saunas will require a little more than fifteen minutes for this to be effective.

Get in and out of your home sauna at fifteen minute intervals so that you spend at least forty five minutes in your home sauna. You want to shower and cool down after each fifteen minute session in your home sauna. Remember to keep hydrated by drinking lots of water before and during your skin cleansing session.

You will that this exercise will make you will relaxed and will also make your skin look better as well. You will discover that this method of detoxifying your skin will give you a nice relaxed feeling, and is great way to relieve any stress in your system after a long day in the office. Definitely it is a fantastic way to forget about the problems you had in the day.

There aren’t a lot of people who have enough time to relax in a sauna following a session at the gym. And there’s certainly lots of people who don’t have access to a sauna in any case. So how do you enjoy the benefits of a sauna if you can’t go to a sauna? Treat yourself to a home sauna!

A home sauna is a great addition to any home. It’s always there and unlike exercise equipment you can be sure that it won’t go unused in your home. This can be a great investment that everyone in the household will enjoy. It’s a great way to spend some time relaxing, and there are also lots of health benefits associated with a home sauna.

Saunas are basically an enclosed space with a heat source that makes them very warm; the purpose is to make your body sweat in order to gain some benefits for your health. There are actually two different types of sauna that you can choose from, which are a steam sauna or a dry sauna.

Great Benefits

If you feel like your skin looks dull or tired then a home sauna could be a great way to restore a healthy glow to your skin. Very often, skin problems are a result of the toxins found in our bodies. Washing your face with a cleanser only penetrates a superficial layer of the skin.

A home sauna can be very useful for cleaning out your skin below the surface. It can stimulate the lymphatic system and help to eliminate toxins that tend to show up as dull or problem skin.

Do some exercise before you climb into the sauna to cleanse your skin. A light and easy workout is just fine. Just something that will get your heart rate up and produce a light sweat. After a bit of sweating, sit down and relax in your sauna for fifteen minutes or so.

Don’t spend more than fifteen minutes at a time in the sauna; take a break for a few minutes, then go back in, aiming for forty five minutes in total. You want to shower and cool down after each fifteen minute session. It’s important that you keep drinking water while you’re going through this skin treatment so you stay hydrated.

Not only will you find that your skin looks better but you will feel better as well. You’re likely to discover that you are more relaxed after spending some time in the sauna. It is a great way to ease stress if you’ve had a long day in the office and need a way to unwind and forget about all the annoying things in your day.

Saunas have been around since time immemorial and are still very popular today. Let’s explore the reasons why saunas continue to have such a strong presence.

Saunas are designed to provide either moist or dry heat.A typical sauna session may be a social gathering in which bathers undress and sit or lie down in temperatures greater than 80 °C. The opening of the pores and sweating make it possible for impurities to easily be removed from the body. If water is poured on the hot stones, steam is produced which makes the sauna moist. The sauna is loved not only for it’s relaxing properties, but also for improving the immune system and helping detoxify the body.

Sauna is an ancient Finnish word that describes the traditional Finnish bath. Stones were heated to very high temperatures and water was poured over them in order to create heat and moisture in the form of steam. The heat would be so strong that often people would undress when this was done.

As time passed, the sauna evolved and began to feature a metal woodstove along with a chimney.Air temperature was typically set between 70 and 80 degrees Celsius but on occasion exceeded as much as 90 degrees Celsius. Spraying water onto the hot rocks helped perfect this experience by adding a soft steam.

In order to take full advantage of the sauna, the Finns gathered a bundle of bird branches containing tiny, fresh leaves. This was called a vihta. This practice not only aids in blood circulation, but adds a pleasant birch scent to the sauna.

As previously noted, a sauna is a wonderful and effective way to relieve stress. It accomplishes this in two basic ways. Not only do they help you relax from simply spending time relaxing within, but they also help your body relax physically. When the sauna heats your skin, it helps to detoxify your body by making it sweat out more harmful toxins than you would have without its aid. Removing these chemicals helps your body fight stress and feel healthier

The opening of the pores also makes it easier to remove toxins from the body. Toxins travel through your sweat glands and are released with your perspiration. As noted earlier, a sauna creates a high amount of perspiration and therefore is excellent for detoxification

The Finns keep the rich history of the sauna alive today by making it a part of their daily ritual. In Finland, saunas are considered to be a natural and effective way of refreshing both the mind and spirit. Then and now, the sauna remains a key component to healthy living in Finland. Families often bathed together in home saunas, and in the past Finnish women often gave birth in saunas.

When the Finns migrated to the different parts of the globe they shared their knowledge of sauna designs and customs. They taught other cultures about the sauna’s health benefits which helped the sauna to evolve further. Eventually, this led to the development of electric sauna stoves and far infrared saunas which became quite popular. Since then various cultures around the world have been recognizing, adopting and improvising the sauna.
